My friends awoke me to the realities of MP3 piracy two or so years ago.
It seems that people who spend no time in their lives making their own
art have no compunction about ripping off other artists. They don't know
the effort that goes into the creation of that which they steal. All
they have is a final, finished product that plays when they push a button.
I don't want my art to end up in their collections unless I have something
to do with its being there. I cannot, however, control the distribution
of my work once it's "out there" and I cannot trust the public to assist
me in establishing and/or maintaining control over it. All I know is that
while my works remain solely in my own possession they retain all the
dignity they ever had since they were created. Anything less is undeserved.
