hullo carol--

Oh I am glad you mailed your mask--am Clemente's assistant for the
parade as we will meet unless unforseen circumstance obtrude in Havana for
it--for three years now very good friends--i am collecting works from
Milwaukee to bring--
it is like autumn here, very cool and light air--collecting more
junk and rubbings from street for works--sending off to australia and
japan to two magazines and writing an essay--today--
haven't "put up" anything in years--i grew up in vermont so used
to spend days doing apple butter, haricots verts,(french green
beans)--making cider, storing away potatos and carrots, etc--in winter
maple sugaring--there's town fairs in summer with "sugar on the
snow"--snow saved from previous winter in freezers or cellars, topped with
that year's maple syrup--also beginning in august collecting downed wood in
forest for kindling, splitting wood and stacking--working on stone fences
before winter comes and begins moving them around if a hard one--
here mostly collect leaves, farovite weeds and small flowers to dry
and press--as like to put them in books and then forget about them until
sometimes years later opening the book again--
i used to inadvertantly do this with packs of cigarettes--now have
frequent dreams where i am walking city that is composite of paris/boston
and wroclaw, poland, berlin--and voila! reach in shirt pocket or jacket
inside pocket and there is ancient years old pack of Gauloises or
Sport--man do they taste good!
that first cup of coffee and cigarette in the morning is often
celebrated--and here i am, having mine before i even wake up!
