But now I've found the real reason. It's because we're overworked. The population of this country is 237 million. 104 million are retired. That leaves 133 million to do the work. There are 85 million in school, which leaves 48 million to do the work. Of this there are 29 million employed by the federal government. This leaves 19 million to do the work. Four million are in the Armed Forces, which leaves 15 million to do the work. Take from the total the 14,800,000 people who work for State and City Government and that leaves 200,000 to do the work. There are 188,000 ill and in hospitals, so that leaves 12,000 to do the work. Now, there are 11,998 people in Prisons. That leaves just two people to do the work. You and me. And you're sitting there messing around on the Web. =====Tip of the Week: Benefits of Good Time Management===== Do you often feel like you're spending your workdays in a frenzy of activity while accomplishing very little? That struggle to "keep up" can cause anxiety, agitation, and even failure. And in today's fast-paced world, your time has tangible value: wasted time is wasted income. Basic time management skills can help you relieve pressure and get more done. Using simple techniques, you can clarify your priorities, manage distractions and interruptions, and effectively use your more time to create more time. And because sound time management practices will enable you to perform at a higher level, you'll also find new pleasures and rewards in your work. You'll regain control of your tasks, reduce your stress, and, at the end of the day, have more quality time to relax and enjoy life outside your job. =====HR/RX for Independent Contractors: ===== Do Your Homework BEFORE You Send Your Résumé By Staffing Specialist Zorha Evans Before you submit your résumé to a prospective client, do a little research. Your modest time investment in learning something about your target company will help you win the job. By exhibiting some knowledge and comprehension of your client's products or industry, you'll enjoy a significant advantage over your competition. There are several easy ways to gather information: 1. Visit the client's web site, or do a keyword search on the Web. 2. Research industry trade publications and periodicals. 3. Call the company's press contact and request product information or a press kit. Note: Do not disclose the purpose of your request. 4. Finally, and most importantly, ask your friends if they know anyone at your client's company. Seventy to eighty percent of all hirers ["hirers" or "hires?"] come through personal referrals. You may already have an "in" at the target company! =====Timeless Wisdom===== "Plans are only good intentions unless they immediately degenerate into hard work." --Peter F. Drucker =====TimeTracker Tip: Your Client Can't Read Your Invoice===== Q: My client isn't able to read my invoice. Am I doing something wrong on my end? A: No. In order to read your invoice attachment, your client must have Acrobat Reader. And most Eudora mail readers will not notice the attached file, even with Acrobat, on either a PC or Mac. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Questions and Suggestions - If you would like to submit a question to HR columnist Zorha Evans, or a suggestion for a Tip of the Week or TimeSaver Newsletter Tip, send your question or suggestion to [EMAIL PROTECTED] The TimeSaver Newsletter is a complimentary service to TimeTracker application users and copyright-free!
