Hi all,

Probably a bit late to wish you all Happy New Year but I'll do it
anyhow.....

so 2001 ......... monkeys, monoliths, space, realistic speech synthesis etc.

actually I'm quite disappointed so far...... all that science fiction I've
read over the years led me to expect more from the 21st century..of course
Planet of the Apes 4 (i.e Conquest of the Planet of the Apes) takes place
in 1984 so I guess I shouldn't put too much faith in sci-fi anyway so far
there's no sign of a plague wiping out cats and dogs and everyone getting
pet apes instead, in fact I haven't seen a pet monkey (other than those
little marmoset things) since about 1982 and remembering the size of the
cage it was in I guess the whole process is pretty cruel....hence the ape
rebellions in the films I suppose....now all becomes clear....!

Anyhow, a New Year, and what will it bring for Fluxus we wonder. Well, in
the UK, last year was pretty good for Fluxus appearing...the Fluxus room at
Tate Modern (which will remain for another year with some rotation of
exhibits incidentally) and of course the Language/Poetry/Performance
conference in Leicester which featured Emmett Williams and others associated
with Fluxus.

Personally I'm hoping to get far more done in 2001 than 2000 which on the
whole seems to be the year I failed to do a lot of things I planned to while
in fact doing a lot of stuff I hadn't planned to which was largely more fun
anyway....oh the indiscipline ;)

On the web various sites that go from strength to strength,
Ganda Key's Zybooks site...........if you haven't seen this check it out at
www.colophon.com/zybooks
Mainly artist's books and mail art but also other nice little bits and
pieces. It's a very enjoyable site.

BTW the original fluxlist archive ( http://king.dom.de/fluxus/list/ )is
running okay these days thanks to Udo (posts appear there a few days after
they've been sent) and of course there's also the archive at the mail
archive
http://www.mail-archive.com/fluxlist%40scribble.com/maillist.html at which
post appear a little quicker..take your pick.
My original plans to put the archive into pdf format at some point have died
owing to the fact that I'm becoming profoundly unimpressed with pdf
format.....especially with delivering large pdf files over the web.....HTML
is definitely superior for these things although adobe's image compression
in pdf is pretty impressive ...

Anyhow, enough wittering on. Happy New Year all, here's to an exciting and
productive year on Fluxlist :-)

cheers,

Sol.
