I enjoyed this. I have always thought that Annals of Improbable Research should be considered a secret Fluxus outpost in the realm of scientific research. The mailart "research" project you cite reminded me of my own New Wave Psychology mail art project at Kent State in 1984. Based on that experience (compared to my own personal mail art experience at the time) I speculated that organizations will tolerate a small amount of deviance (vs. bag fulls of it) and that a small amount of deviance may even been needed by these organizations in order to keep their bureaucratic ways greased. Or something like that. More details at http://www.fluxus.org/NewWave/mail/
