Dear Owen, My own feeling about teaching Fluxus ideas in schools is mixed. I
have taught in high schools and colleges, The students are fantastically
appreciative, in general. At Ohio State I had perhaps 200 enthusiastic
supporters. The chairman of the art department said,"You have a cult
following." However that did not dissuade the other sculpture faculty from
not re-hiring me after my one year contract was over. That happened to me at
Kenyon after six years of devoted student interest, at South Dakota State
after ten years and so on. Where I teach now, Mount Vernon Nazarene
University, I am well accepted by faculty and students and administrators.
This comes late in life at the time I really don't need to work but do so
because I enjoy it. I only teach part time as an adjunct. My students still
win prizes. Crispin Webb is one of them. I am proud of them! -Don
