Dear Kathy:
many thanks for forwarding the stickers piece--
though it is very puzzling to me--
i can recall as far back as the Sixties people making stickers--a friend and i used to get hold of bumper and poltical stickers and just paint  them over and make something else on them--i still do it today--saves money!-often one can find tons of them thrown away behind copy places and also at music stores there are always freebies--one can take right out the door and make them afresh!
i think Schwitters made his own stickers also--
my favorite t-shirt/sticker duo was from about 1984--by CDGF in Cambridge, MA
BE STREET SMART--DON'T GET CAUGHT
had a great image on it also designed by CDG--
i think the article overlooks the actual low-fi low budget street levels of stickers and makes much of the commerical ones
it is a business after all!
also if someone stole a skateboard way back when--the new "owner" would decorate over the old stickers with new ones-
you can also make up your own luggage stickers--all the made up places one has been!--
i wondered if the association of the article writer with these new stickers and skateboards isn't that they are actually expensive and conventional?
a few days ago i saw where someone had put up one of th chetrooper stickers--and someone else had written an obscenity over it--on a telephone pole i was making rubBEings off of--i peeled it off and made someting else out of it--
i imagine people have as long as there have been stickers!
stickers . . . stick ups . . . stick figures . . . sticky fingers . . . pop sticks . . . "the sticks" . . .
oh lord "what a sticker for detail"!
"honk if you've seen Elvis"!
i used to make ones that said "Found on Mars"
"Special Limited Edition of 50, 000" is a good one for getting the in-crowd to purchase an "instant collector's item"
stick'er up!
"stick in the mud"! "stuck on you" "stick to the rules" "stuck inside " "take a stick to it"
look at that skateguy--he's all stuck up!
onwo/ards!
free the stickers!
