Finding Partial Key Codes

I would like to offer the user a scripted facility to search a catalogue code by entering any part of an alphanumeric string.
 
For example: if a catalogue code is 'ABC-123' the user could enter 'A' or 'AB' or '12' or '1' or '3' and locate the item.
 
I have tried various combinations of find request and not been able to achieve this.
 
I'm sure I've managed this in the past but can't find the relevant solution.
