hi, trying to find a way to open specific audio files for
individual records, via the field FileName_calc (a reduced info
title for the record). have managed to open documents before using
Send Event, but i can't figure out how to do this for filenames
whcih change with the record.
eg. in record 10001 documenting "New Piece" by Jane Doe i want to
be able to click on a button beside FileName_calc to open up the
file 10001_doe-ja_newpiece.aif using Peak (sound app)
i also tried to get this happening using a container field, but
that hasn't been successful; also i had to manually select / enter
the filename.
am i right in thinking that this actually can't be done in FM7 but
is possible in 8? i actually have FM8 (haven't installed yet) but
the sound engineer who will be using this database only has FM7.
any suggestions appreciated. even a partial solution would be
appreciated, if i could at least use the button to open up the
folder In Finder) where the sound files are stored...
You can do it using Open URL ( field with path & file name )
The tricky part is to get the path right ala FileMaker: when I'm in
trouble I define a container field, insert a file (reference only) in
it and then define another calc field, unstored, text result = the
container field: the field will return the path to the file the way
FileMaker wants it
Last but not least: FileMaker wants it in a different way depending
on the platform (Mac or PC), so take also that into account
