Ladies and Germs,
I find myself in need of data. A lot of data. A coming version of
one of my products is designed to fight web site ugliness and promote
legibility. This version incorporates the W3C interim standard for
selecting text colors for various backgrounds, that standard being
intended to ensure that the text on web pages can be read. (Hell,
even Apple has has some of those stupid gray on gray pages that are
nearly impossible for grown-ups to read.)
Problem is, the W3C standard is a long way from perfect. It excludes
quite a few serviceable color combinations and it includes quite a
few that are really bad. However, if I can collect sufficient good
data, I'm pretty sure I can do the math to develop a better
algorithm, which would go into the next version of my product.
So here's the deal. I've developed a quick-to-take survey in the
format of an Filemaker Pro file ... it should take maybe five minutes
including the calibration time ... and I'd like to persuade a lot of
people to take it. Since there are at least four variables, I expect
to need at least a hundred participants.
In return, you may have an unlocked copy of the survey file, which
can be a pretty big payoff for such a small amount of your time. If
you ever need to construct a survey, this could be a _big_ head start.
If you'd like to help, and receive this file in appreciation, please
go here to download the survey package.
