And you can specify LIST layout. If there are more fields than will
fit the maximum WIDTH, it will wrap around and stack them (across
first, then down). It looks a little odd, but it should give you all
the fields on the layout. Then you can use Steve's method to rearrange.
I personally start with a blank layout and pull in fields. Yes, it
takes time, but not any more than trying to re-arrange, IMHO.

I don't know if there is a maximum number of fields on a layout. I
suspect not. But what I think you have come up against is the
maximum layout SIZE (length, actually).
When you ask Filemaker to automatically place all fields on a new
layout, it uses your default typeface size to place them in a
vertical list. I assume that if the list is longer than the maximum
layout length, some get missed.
You can of course manually place the fields on a layout. If you
really need all on one layout, I'd suggest first creating two
layouts each with half the fields (by selecting half the fields at a
time in that layout-building wizard thingy). Then simply copy the
fields from one layout and paste them onto the other (to the right
of the existing fields).

Is there a maximum number of fields in a layout?
I have a FM monolithic table that I am trying to convert. When I
import it, the entire table with all field shows in Define Database/
Tables.
However, when I create a layout for the table it gets cut off
before all fields appear, so my conversion script does not convert
all fields.
If there is not a maximum is there another reason?
FM Pro Advanced Windows.
There are something less that 850 fields.
Don’t know how to get a real number since layout is short!
