I have the same book you do and it is light on examples, but helpful
when it comes to describing the functions.
Ray Cologon's FileMaker Pro 9 Bible has a good section on scripts with
examples. Most of which is applicable to 8.5. You should be able to get
a number of examples from his website.
I have also found the FileMaker 9 Developer reference to helpful, also
by Bowers, Lane and Love. Again a bit short on examples but very helpful.
If you have FileMaker technet, the Technical Resource section has an
articale on scripted tab control that can be a helpful example.
