If you'd like a different approach, check of Excelisis' demos on
Hierarchies. http://www.excelisys.com/web/downloads/index.php

Be sure to read the pdf that comes with it. It's a flexible strategy that
you should consider. Work with the demo a bit, see if that clears things up.
