Charlie,
Where do you copy from? Is this possibly encoded as utf-16?
If this is not the case, please note that @ has a special meaning in
finds.
You have to either escape it, or put it in quotes:
[email protected] finds the email address [email protected]
"[email protected]" finds the email address [email protected]
See FileMaker Help for details.

In FMP 8.5, on both a Mac and PC, if I copy data in a field, switch
to find mode, paste the unformatted text and perform a find, I get
a not found message. The data is present but it cannot be found
when pasted in find mode? The field I am using contains an email
address. If I manually enter characters before the @ sign the find
works, as soon as the @ sign is added to the find, it does not
work. Any suggestions as to why this happens?
Thanks.
