I am finally ready to switch over to FM10, having spent the last

I plan to convert the live FM6 files to FM10, and then import the
data into the already prepared, converted FM10 files.
I know that perform auto enter should be unchecked during import,
and that all serial numbers will have to be re-set, but I’m pretty
sure there are likely to be further bumps along the way - I wonder
if anyone has been through this process before, and can provide
some tips on what to look for and what to avoid?
I'm alarmed to read that you plan to reset all serial numbers. Are
these the serial numbers that other tables use to refer to records?
If so, I'd move heaven and earth to preserve them.
But perhaps you only meant you needed to reset the auto-enter value
for the NEXT serial number for any field that has such. That would
indeed be necessary, presuming that you've turned off auto-entry for
those fields (and made a list of them) prior to import.
Make sure you've matched field types accurately. I've wasted more
time than I can remember cleaning up after people who thot that they
could move mailing lists freely into an Excel spreadsheet using the
default field types, not realizing that Excel strips leading zeroes
out of zip codes that are auto-interpreted as numbers.
