A couple days ago while on Twitter there was a discussion about the cost of FileMaker hosting. Comments about how difficult it was for developers and students alike to be tethered to a hosting plan and paying a monthly fee.

I came up with an idea for a community server, and I Twittered about it - the idea was simple.

- Provide a FileMaker Server with FileMaker Server 10 Software and provide high speed hosting

Next we had to decide on how to cover the costs.

- Here is what we decided, we would offer the community server to 30 individuals for the cost of $50 for one year. These individuals could have 3-4 databases, and would have access to the server for testing and such for a full year.

- I gave our Twitter followers first grabs - and we had 20 respond immediately. We have 10 seats available for the community server, we can only accept 10 more people as we want to allow everyone at least 3-4 databases.
