I don't know what "Live Upgrade" or "Alternate Release Areas" are, but I _think_ you are talking about automatic updating tools. Debian's apt is tried and true. RedHat's up2date is newer, and seems to keep people happy. Mandrake has something, but I can't recall its name. upnrm or something. I bet SuSE's YAST2 has something similar. <plug> I also recommend reading a refereed paper published at USENIX LISA 2002, about the quality of security patches and best times to apply patches. http://immunix.org/~crispin/time-to-patch-usenix-lisa02.ps.gz [400k] http://immunix.org/~crispin/time-to-patch-usenix-lisa02.pdf [214k] The short of it is: critical systems might not want automatic patch application. </plug> -- US patent #6275829: Representing a graphic image on a web page with a thumbnail-sized image -- true Microsoft Innovation
