... it is, i think, a mistake to assume that updating a box going to
provide a higher level of system security.

    bottom line, get on a security list, and follow their lead; i suggest
'securityfocus.com' as a starting point.  it is my preference to compile
updated source, rather than, wait for RH to provide a back-ported RPM
fix.

    depending on any vendor, as a middleman, in my system's security is a
little too cavalier for my taste ...
