IE comes with (is?) the Windows desktop, and is well supported throughout the Internet. It does have more functionality than Firefox (unfortunately too much functionality). Firefox has the benefit of being the underdog, it has a great community which is actively improving it all the time, particularly with plugins. There are more reported bugs with Firefox in the last year. However, that is largely mitigated by the fact that Mozilla, like most of the OSS community, is much faster to fix bugs and vulnerabilities than Microsoft. They *can*, because they have not intertwined an entire OS around Firefox, Thunderbird, etc.... One might also argue that the bugs per functionality-increase/improvement shines in favor of Firefox. Both have challenges, both have strengths. From a long-term manageability standpoint, I tend to have more faith in Firefox given its track-record.
