You can add this in the `.fomus' file in your home directory:

inst-defs += <id: default
              staves: (<clefs: (<instclef: treble ledgers-down: 2
octs-down: 0>
                                <instclef: bass ledgers-up: 2 octs-up:
0>)>)>

`+=' usually appends to a list, but in this case the built-in default
will also get overridden.
