Did you try the `staff' setting? It receives a number or a list of
choices and overrides the staff selection algorithm (or limits the
choices).
Within the next release or two there will be more examples in the docs
showing how to insert your own code for staff selection, accidentals,
etc.. It can be done by compiling a shared library module or as
callback routines in whatever programming environment you are using
(provided libfomus is loaded and you have access to its API).
