Can you tell me everything about how bookbinding works? If your printing press stopped working, would you know how to fix it? On the other hand, it's possible to make an EPUB file with a text editor and a copy of `zip`, and of course there are dozens of tools to make this process easier. I absolutely agree with the idea that the Kindle and its ilk are inferior to traditional books in a lot of ways. Some of these may get resolved relatively soon, while some are simply a fundamental aspect of the medium. Nonetheless, the process of creating and distributing an ebook is quite evidently simpler than that of creating and distributing a physical book. I guess this boils down to an issue of the metric used to assess books and ebooks: whether one's effectiveness is as a tool for conveying information from one party to another, or merely consuming that information.
