Hi

Just installed 7.2 over 6.1 (fresh install, not update). The machine sits in
my cupboard and acts as a internet gateway & mail server. I used X-Win32 to
run X-sessions from my Win2K machine, but after the new install, although I
can connect to run an xterm, I can't get some window managers to work. 'twm'
and 'mwm' will run ok, but when I try to start IceWM...

andrew@tau:~ > icewm
Bad option: MultiByte
Could not load fontset '-adobe-helvetica-bold-r-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-*-*'.
Fallback to '*fixed*' failed.
Segmentation fault

When I try to start fvwm2...

andrew@tau:~ > fvwm2
[FVWM][GetFontSetOrFixed]: WARNING -- can't get fontset fixed, trying
'fixed'
[FVWM][GetFontSetOrFixed]: ERROR -- can't get fontset 'fixed'

When I run KDE...

andrew@tau:~ > kde
xset: bad font path element (#36), possible causes are:
Directory does not exist or has wrong permissions
    Directory missing fonts.dir
Incorrect font server address or syntax

kdeinit: Shutting down running client.

Although KDE does then go on to load properly.

I get the same problems if I try to run X-Windows on the machine itself
locally (not over the network) so the problems isn't because of that.

I can use 'xfontsel' to view fonts so it appears X can find my fonts. My
/etc/X86Config includes all my font directories. AFIK, the local machine is
set up for XFree3 (not 4).

Please help asap - this is really bugging me and I can't find a solution
anywhere... :o(

Many thanks,

Andrew Smith
