IY> HP-ROMAN8 Dear Ian,
XFree86 uses the ISO 8859-1 (``Latin-1'') character set for Western-European languages, which is derived from DEC Multilingual. For historical reasons, HP uses the HP ROMAN-8 character set. While it would be easy to add ROMAN-8 support to XFree86, XFree86 does not currently support the ROMAN-8 character set, which we believe to be obsolete. The simplest workaround would be to add aliases for ISO 8859-1 fonts to the ROMAN-8 names; please see the mkfontdir(1) manpage. You should be aware that doing this will break accented characgters.
