I just meant that a bare font path should disable the bitscaler and that 
the user should say :scaled to get scalable names.  For compatibility, the 
code should continue to accept :unscaled and ignore it.

You're right; just rip it out.  With the default to have fonts unscalable, 
we should know within a year whether we can delete the code without 
consequence as well.
