Agenda
O-Week Aftermath - Evaluation and Preparation
(Monika)
O-week went well, and we already have 42 members for this year. A suggestion that we should make pre-emptive strikes against next year's o-week by making a record of what we did this year and preparing what worked and whatever new inspirations we have earlier as a project for someone.
BBQ Week 2
(Monika)
Currently slated for 30th of March (which is a market day), the Enviro Collective are handling the organisational side of a barbeeque of sorts. This means that we don't really have to do much beyond getting the food when the need arises but there were suggestions that we could make either pancakes or have a chai stall. A further suggestion on this matter was that we could possibly have someone in the position of holding such a thing every couple of months. When this was thrown open to volunteers, frogs ribbited and crickets chirped. But if anyone out there is willing for what would be an estimated 5 hours of work however often they decide to hold one, the opportunity is there.
Potential Product Survey
(Brenda)
Brenda outlined her plans for a survey of both members and non-member shoppers to ask about what products they like to see, how often they'd consume them, how much they'd be willing to pay and so forth. There were no objections, and at last count the number of potential volunteers was at about six. Looks like it's awn like donkey kawng.
Ordering Helpers
(Brenda)
The second part of Brenda's master plan is to have helpers getting some information on the various products that people will be telling us they do and don't want. Volunteers for this were included in the six above, so it seems that there is no stopping this juggernaut of ordering! Having said that, anyone else who wants to lend a hand with that can just get in contact with Brenda. [It'd be good for those who have some pet product that we stock that you totally love or something, because you get to learn all about it. Like with primary school projects, just with less colouring in sharks or whatever. ]
Website URL Somewhere in Shop
(Brenda)
Having noticed that there is no overt presence of the website's URL in the shop to aid the enlightening of the unenlightened, Brenda asked if it was there and she just hadn't noticed or if it wasn't there at all. Monika replied saying that soon her Machiavellian plans would come to fruition and a new sign would be up that would contain the URL.
Should we Have an Annual/Sessional Report
(Brenda)
For reasons ranging from accountability to historical documentation (sort of), Brenda suggested that managerial positions could or should write an annual or bi-annual report. Opportune time for presentation would be the end of session dinner or when you leave your position. No objections were raised.
Updating the Member's Guide
(Brenda)
Mostly the management positions are out of date. Catherine volunteered to help co-ordinate this update, as long as she can get the relevant information for it
Removal of Unused Water Tank Beneath the Sink
(Rob)
There's a tank that doesn't get used, need to check with the union that we can rip it out. Georgie to handle this.
The Fridge, what's the problem what's the cure
(Rob)
Apparently due to poor seals, the fridge occasionally bugs out and leak or plays up in some other nefarious manner.
Either ask if there is some way we can get UNSW facilities to help fix the fridge or need to replace the whole door sometime in the not too distant future.
Problem Resolution so we don't need Helen for Everything
(Rob)
This should get resolved by updating the How to Do Things and updating the management committee's responsibilities (see earlier item)
Price of Newly Made T-Shirts
(Rob)
$12 with normal discounts applying. Big Kev would be excited, and so should you be!
Announcing the Field Trip
(Rob)
Would be best to have it as a project for someone. After getting totally excited at the idea of some zany sci-fi-style cross co-op outing that probably involved clowns riding walruses, Renata volunteered to see what she could do to put her scheme into action. It will have to be pushed back from the rather ambitious Week 2/3 running time if such elaborate plans are to eventuate.
Chai Stall and Pancakes (Brenda) Handled earlier.
Calico Bags & T-Shirts
(Monika)
Plan to run two workshops a session or something to teach others how to run a screen printing session (the booking of the room etc and the printing of the shirts). These others would then teach yet more others and soon the world will be awash in screen-printed shirts and bags. Motion was passed to give $50 to $80 to getting calico bags for the purpose of printing on them. Volunteers then volunteer edfor the learning of how to screen print things at the expert Monika's hands.
Thanks to Monika
(Helen)
Aka Let's Embarrass Monika. Everyone gives major props to The Big M for all the work she did especially for o-week (any small piece of paper, laminated or otherwise that you see around she probably made). Monika grins sheepishly.
Enviro Collective Meetings Outside The Shop?
(Renata)(Still not resolved)
The enviro collective would like to have meetings outside the shop. Georgie unsure that we should condone this apparent political connection. Helen raises a comparative point: would we agree to having the Young Liberal's having their meetings infringing on the space? If we won't take one we probably shouldn't take the other. Disclaimer that the enviro collective people are all nice, and wouldn't exclude anyone on purpose, but having people outside the shop can give a closed image. Renata mentions that if we're trying to have a community bsaed around the co-op then this is the kind of thing we should be thinking of allowing. Suggestion that we could draw a line based on the number of attendees to these meetings; if they get in the way of running the shop (door being clogged or shielded in particular) then disallow it. Or an after hours/busy hours division. Input from Adam and Dave showing disapproval of allowing things that will give appearance of political affiliations. Query from Anne; can we make it more of a mercantile agreement. Reply from Monika and Renata that the Collective already do a lot for us. After much hemming and hawing with no real progress, decision that the subject to go to list for further discussion. See later meeting.
Neal's Thing about lawyers (great descriptive title)
(Me, Monika, Renata or Rob)
Law Society has asked if Thoughtful Foods can cater for law drinks this year (four times per year). They can certainly come down and buy stuff of their own volition. Discount for a bulk purchase a possibility. Lay down some freebie cards/membership forms. Cost + 10%. Exact finance details to be decided upon later as the evening was wearing on (and by bottom was getting permanently imprinted by the milk crate. In fact, it still hurts as i re-write these notes)
Coffee Table
(Monika)
We're getting a coffee table. Send Thank You cards to the Enviro Collective for (photocopying the cookbook) and a T-Shirt for Mim(sic?) as thanks for the coffee table.
