Producing Font Metrics

I found a question from 7/11/2002 about the EOFException when trying to generate a font metric xml from a true type font.  Mark Peterson said that he was looking into the issue.  I have run into this issue with a third party font.  Was there any resolution to the issue?     Allison Lucas X2725
