It appears that Adobe and Batik look differently at the incorporation of CSS into SVG -- in this case, the 'fill' property. I don't know which is correct -- so far as I know there is no W3C SVG Validator. Unfortunately, it's unlikely I'll have time right now to work on a version that would run in Batik.
