There's still the possiblity of a leak in the Java RTL itself. Which JDK are you using?
I'm using JDK 1.4.2 (or 1.4.2_01; I'll have to check). I just did a heap dump (-Xhprof) and found that two byte[] arrays are killing my heap, both created by JAI. I have to run now, but tomorrow I'll have the full results of my investigation.
