In principle, yes. Look into the configuration process how the file
is processed. However, the necessary functions are not part of the
"official" API and may change without notification.

I don't quite understand this. If you mean you need more than one
thread for rendering with different font configurations, then
no, this can't be done easily (need changes in the FOP renderer
setup). However, why do you think you need this? You can set up
a configuration with all the fonts you need as long as you can
refer to different fonts with different names. Only fonts actually
referenced in the FO source will be embedded.
