I think that should make pretty clear that Apache FOP is alive. Yes, we
are struggling to attract new developers. The number of active
developers is relatively small for the size of the codebase and the size
of the user community. For example, we still don't have any specialists
for non-western scripts (Arabic, Chinese etc.). But the user community
is all the bigger. And yes, it's a shame we haven't released FOP 1.0,
yet. But that's not an expression of FOP's fitness for production use.
It's just a version number. If it were just for me alone we'd have a 1.x
for some time now.

If you ask some users here on this list, most will tell you that they
are happy with FOP and use it in production.
