The system-model here will give you a minimal desktop

http://fdev.foresightlinux.org/mirror/fedora/linux/test_desktop.system-model

Once you have a minimal install running add the parts from this system-model 
and sync.

Yeah, there's a way to put system model source into the repository
without building it into groups. Wasn't used a lot and so I don't
remember the details, but we should be able to get the yum groups
in and usable that way. Need to refresh my memory as to how after
four years since talking about it, though!
