Dear Sir:
Thank you for the
heads-up regarding possible changes in fisheries management practices at El
Cuchillo Lake in Mexico. I cannot tell from your e-mail address whether or
not you are a member of the Mexico BASS Federation.
In any event, I would
encourage you to get in touch with the President of the Mexico BASS Federation,
David Colyer, at [EMAIL PROTECTED], and make him
aware of your concerns. We at BASS try first to work through our
Federations regarding state or local issues, as we find these organization are
generally very effective in getting issues resolved because they live in the
areas, and often know the people and issues involved much better than we
do. However, we do assist as requested.
It would be very
unfortunate if the state of Nuevo Leon abolished it's Parks and Wildlife
Department, or implemented changes in fisheries management practices that could
severely impact bass fishing in those great fishing waters at El Cuchillo.
Thanks again for alerting
us, and for working to protect your sport and the resources that support
it!
Tight lines!

[EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Possible Commercial Gill Netting at El
Cuchillo, Mexico.
Noreen: You as B.A.S.S. Director of Conservation,
should be informed of the possibility of commercial gill netting at '' EL
CUCHILLO LAKE ''. The only lake in Mexico where Gill netting is not permited, as
was mentioned in a 2003 issue of Bassmaster Magazine.
It is rumored that the State of Nuevo
Leon is planning to do away with its State Parks and Wildlife Department to
permit CO-OP's to start Commercial Gill Netting. The news is spreading like
wildfire in the Fishing community in the area, and has everybody very upset
and ready to do something about it.
Like I said, these are just
rumors, but they are comming from a lot of diferent sources. I think B.A.S.S.
should start to monitor the situation and be ready to take action on behalf of
Mexico Bass Federation before it is to late.
Thank
you for your time
