There is now a new training material for GAP beginners.
This is a Software Carpentry lesson "Programming with GAP":

which has been beta-tested earlier this week at the Software
Carpentry Workshop in Manchester. This workshop opened the
CoDiMa Training School in Computational Discrete Mathematics
(which is finishing today):
