Dear me, after reading the help file a little more closely I realize that I made a fool of myself. What I erroneously considered a bug is described there, perfectly plain:

This file will become File2 Now that I understand how it works I must say it is exactly what I always wanted (but were ashamed to ask for). ;-) Once again, kudos to one of the greatest usability experts ever, Jan Fiala! But ideally, I am still a fan of the idea to add another string. Stefan translated "Text Diff with file..." into German as "Mit einer anderen Datei vergleichen..." (i.e. "Compare with another file..."). This is maybe the best and most clear-cut translation one could ask for in all the other cases where it is used, but in the tab menu it's quite misleading for the _second_ file. And if we take into consideration that PSPad is used all over the world (mainly because of its unicode support, I guess), chances are that there are languages in which this one string just can't be forced into serving two quite different purposes. And I think, regardless of the language, the ellipsis is quite helpful in most cases when the string is used, but misleading in this one special case. But I understand that this will make things more complicated, programming-wise. So for the time being, maybe we should just change the string in the German language file. What do you think, Stefan, if you read this at all? How about "Datei vergleichen..."
