Hmm. Would editing source in Firefox edit the displayed page even from a read-only server? The only app I know of which can do that is OmniWeb on Mac OS X. That feature actually came in very handy when I was purchasing something online and the bottom half of a form did not show up (invalid HTML) so I was afraid of getting charged twice; I fixed the broken HTML in the cache, reloaded the page, and was able to finish my ecommerce transaction safely. (And I wrote to the webmaster with the fix and he fixed it, hehe.)
