Hi all,

I'm an old NoteTab-user and really productive due to its simple and powerful
clip engine. Unfortunately, it hasn't been updated for years now, so I'm getting
a little sick using it.

Having tried lots of alternatives, returning more or less quickly to NoteTab
each and every time, I'm happy to have found PSPad. It looks pretty much like
what I'm looking for, but still I cannot make the change. After a couple of
hours trying to get a hold on it I regularly resign and return to NoteTab to
produce some code.

Today, I started another approach. I began to understand what macros might be,
what the clip definition file is for, but then again, I'm stuck. Macros, I'm
afraid, are not easy to understand. At first, it looks pretty easy, like any old
recorder, but then I'm confused. The latest macro is assigned to the F5-key,
there are only four keys, and replay of any other macro requires several
keystrokes. This is not what I'm used to, this is way too tedious to be really
useful.

So I was happy when I discovered the clip definition file with the help of an
answer of one of the questions in this forum. I was able to understand the
principle, apply and tweak it, although the invocation seemed to be a little
awkward, but I was confident that I could learn to produce the keystrokes
Ctrl+space+Enter as quickly as a simple space key, because that's the way I
invoke clips in NoteTab -- couldn't be any easier and faster.

But then I was stuck again -- I just wanted to add my standard PHP debugging
line to the clip definition file, which was easy enough, but it should invoke
the file name and preferably even the line number (which is not possible in
NoteTab). How would I do that? I have no clue and can't find any hint in the
forum or the help file.

Thanks a lot! In the meantime, I will return once again to NoteTab to get some
work done... I maintain several big projects with thousands of files and tens of
thousands of lines of code... It would be really nice if I could save all the
productivity gains from NoteTab to PSPad and profit from its superior
organization, like the code explorer and syntax highlighting. It should be easy,
because it's mostly the old trick of replacement (like the well-known Word auto
correct-feature).

There are two other features which, if I understood correctly, are supported by
PSPad as well; one is a very powerful and fast search and replace feature for
files, the other is called paste board, and it is a kind of Clipboard recorder,
so I hope I don't have to sacrifice anything when I switch. Again, thanks a lot,
at least for listening!
