This post is part "bug fix" and part "new ideas". Regarding having many open files: (bug fix)
Sometimes when a second row of File Tabs is created, that new row is obscured by the ruler. This doesn't seem to happen when File Tabs are displayed at the bottom. I myself prefer the Tabs at the top, but I guess I'll switch my preference. But it seems like a bug, so I thought I'd mention it first. New Ideas: (1) When a new File Tab row is created, split up the number of Tabs as evenly as possible on all existing rows. For example - if I have 12 open files and there's no more room for another, when I open another file only three Tabs are on the new row. Instead of breaking them up as 10 + 3, how about doing it like 7 + 6. Another example - if I have 24 open files and each row has 12 Tabs, when I open a new file and a new row is created there are only 4 Tabs on that new row. Instead of distributing the Tabs as 10 + 11 + 4, how about making it 9 + 8 + 8. (2) Allow for colorized Tabs, using an HSB scale. User could: (a) choose the starting hue (in degrees); (b) choose the Tab saturation & brightness levels (in percent); (c) "smoothly" scale Tab hue among all open files (no hue wrapping) *or* "force" scale by a specified hue amount; (d) make edit window background color "mirror" the Tab color *and* allow deviation of saturation & brightness by a specified amount. All that said, I think I'll start using the "Files list" window, detached, a bit more often. Which gives me another "new idea" for a PSPad feature regarding said window: (3) When multiple files with "common" paths are open, show a "divider text bar" above them which has that path. Then each file's full path can be abbreviated so more detail can be seen. I can provide an example image if anyone thinks this is a good idea or wants to better understand what I mean. Since I am guessing that most people have tall "Files list" windows, there would be plenty of vertical space to utilize. This feature would rely on a parameter which determines how many "common path files" there must be in order to generate the alternate format. Thanks for reading my longwindedness. :-)) -- <http://forum.pspad.com/read.php?2,47204,47575> PSPad freeware editor http://www.pspad.com
