This is the behavior that I see: when one picks up a component, the
behavior depends on the setting of Tools/Preferences/Snap to Center.
If Snap to Center is enabled, the the movement of the cursor depends on
whether or not the reference point (it's called "Center" in this case, but
it is actually the footprint reference Origin) is on-screen or off-screen.
If it is off-screen the cursor does not move when one attempts to pick up a
component. Rather, if anything moves, it is the component, which moves so
that its reference point is on the cursor. On the other hand, if the
reference point is on-screen, the cursor will jump to the reference point
of the component.
If Snap to Center is disabled, neither the cursor nor the component move
when a component is picked up (except as the cursor is moved by the user,
of course).
From Mr. Coutinho's description of his solution, it would appear that he
has a footprint with a reference at the corner of his screen, but pin 1
somewhere else. He has Snap to Center set. When he attempts to pick up the
part, his cursor jumps, which can be disconcerting. But it is, in fact, one
of the best possible behaviors under these conditions.
The other alternatives would be to move the component to the cursor, which
could also be disconcerting, I'd say more disconcerting under more
conditions, or to pick up the component without changing the relationship
of cursor and component. The latter option is sometimes useful; it is
available by turning off Snap to Center.
