I guess getting a good sysadmin is hard everywhere but it's a nice skill
to have anyways. I think most of the good sysadmin work inside ISPs or
large corporations anyways, and the work done inside is really hard to
judge even if they work on OSS stuff because either a lot of the stuff
is so routine or so related to the company's security that it can't be
declassified.

I think some requirements for a good sysadmin now are:
* Being able to work on multiple platforms.. at least having idea/skill
on stuff like LDAP, NIS... at least making Windows and linux talk better
* Understanding networks and security scenarios and being able to react
fast.
* Communication skills ---- It's often the case that sysadmins don't
communicate too effectively or assume too much, u might want to avoid that.
* Interest in learning new things --- it might actually payoff someone
who knows some useful skills with an interest in developing skills than
someone who knows what's "hot" now but not too enthused in learning new
tricks.

Of course these are rather generic. Often times, it depends from company
to company. A small company might be good with a different skill set
than a larger one. Also, in places like Nepal, often one person is
managing many places too which can be both a good thing or bad.
