I think the user interface  gives an user the 'first impression' of a
software. But a software shouldnt be judged just by the
user_interface  and without exploring the inner
details ,functionalities and performance . "DONT JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS
COVER" // " DONT JUDGE A SOFTWARE BY ITS INTERFACE"

Ps:: Your situation might have been worse if your friend had asked you
to show him your best text editor  and you showed him VI. haha :)
