Dear Team members, here is a brief report of open education week 
celebration at Lalitpur Ma. Vi. On 5th March 2018
Open Education Week Celebration at Lalitpur MaVi.

On the occasion of Open Education Week (March 5-9, 2018), FOSS Nepal 
organized a Talk Program to the school teachers there.

Before the program started, there was a mutual agreement between FOSS Nepal 
and an Lalitpur Ma. Vi to provide a venue for the program and a target 
audience while, FOSS Nepal would design the program, disseminate and 
execute the event. The lead to the agreement was done by School vice 
principal Gita Sitaula and FOSS Nepal executive member Ravi Bhattarai with 
the consent of President, Hempal Shrestha.

Initially, we started our talk with an introduction to Free and Open Source 
Software and what it means in the digital era. How does the openness has an 
impact a freedom of an individual and how important it is to everyone today 
including teachers and students as an active member of knowledge society. 
Sagun Ji started a warm up talk and made the point.

We took the talk further with choice of available technologies in free and 
open source software. We discussed the differences that various software 
and educational resources would make to the classrooms all across the 
geographies. This was put to it’s basics and lively through interactions by 
Hempal Sir.

The last part of the delivery was elaborated and clarified with some More 
examples on how free and open source technology and resources in 
classrooms. Be it platforms like: Life: Linux for Education (Edubuntu, Open 
Suse Life and Uber Student.). Learning resources like Wikipedia for 
Schools, Project Gutenberg CD and DVD, Ted Education, OLE resources, Free 
Books, Educational Resources.

End of the session after an hour, we discussed on how can we take this as a 
sustainable initiative for a long term implementation at the host 
institution and possible partners.

There were around 25 teachers from the school, 3 participants from FOSS 
Nepal, 3 from Axon System and 1 Guest. The Session went for an hour and 
half with a follow up session on strategic planning.

Over all, the talk program met it’s core objectives and made an impact. 
Hope this will make it’s own history.
