Sorry if I make a naive remark... but in Visual Studio, afaik, the .suo files are not necessary, only the .sln ones (.dsp ... etc) which are in any case text. The .suo files contains per-user specific settings... and usually we did not put them in the repository (we used CVS at the time... but the reasoning is the same).
