What's supposed to happen? The same thing. If you keep committing a binary file, changing it completely between each checkin, the repo's gonna become a fat thing. As you asked for it. This is in no way IMHO a GIT horror story. It's just a mild case of PEBKAC (who ended up quitting anyways), i.e., HR fckup.
