Hello, first of all, thanks for every suggestion: even when it leads to nothing immediately useful, it contributes to experience.
I've been able to try with a powered USB hub, and this time my device works: apparently the bus is not able to stabilize when the current is not enough. Thanks again to everybody, Ant9000
