There used to be a time that, if you simply sent textual output in ASCII format 
out the parallel
port, finished by a 'form feed' ASCII character, the printer would just spit 
out your output. But
they don't sell printers with parallel ports anymore these days, do they? If 
they did, a simple
USB-to-parallel cable with a chip from FTDI surely would be supported by the 
kernel.

Maybe a simple laser printer would still do. Otherwise, you'll have to port 
CUPS or whatever
printing subsystem is popular on Linux.
