The power supply delivers 5V input in case you don't have a well regulated 5V
supply. These things weren't so common two years ago, when it was introduced.
You'll probably notice that it isn't RoHS compliant, which means they haven't
updated it.

Also, sometimes you like to have a separate board with a decent power supply,
in case you're building something that needs to run off a battery, for example.

Third, the original FoxBoard didn't have the plug-type input, only the
molex-type pin header.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but i noticed they are selling a
powersupply for the fox board. I also noticed the fox board has a 5v
input port, that seems to accept a regular 5v adapter.

I know nothing about electronics, so forgive me if it's stupid, but
do i need to buy the power suppy when i order my fox board?
What is it's purpose, and what is the purpose of the onboard input.
