[foxboard] How to ID which foxboard version?

I would like to query the foxboard version via either FTP or a comm 
terminal.   I need to know whether the connected foxboard is a 416 
needing a 4 meg fimage or a 816 needing an 8 meg fimage.

Any suggestions please.
