Michael,
I just did a quick survey of our site "ECB count".
We have 6 CP40FTs, and (currently) the highest ECB count in any of them is
113.
We still have extra FBM capacity (in that CP) and I was NOT aware of the 120
ECB limit.
I'll be paying attention to what comes of this.
We have plans to add some temperature transmitters in the (hopefully) near
future.
This ECB limit may "help us" decide what type field devices we can use.

Sorry I couldn't help with your question but now I'd like to know the answer
as well.

Subject: Number of ECB's per CP40

I have been told by Foxboro that the total number of ECB's per CP40 should
never exceed 120. Our problem is we use a large number of intelligent
transmitters and each intelligent transmitter requires an ECB. If you use
FBM 18's that would mean that the maximum number of FBM's per CP would be 13
(9ECB's per FBM18). I've always been told that a CP40 could handle 48 FBMs
with no more than 24 per fieldbus isolator

The only performance issue I have seen is the Intelligent Field Device
Configurator (IFDC) will not write information to the transmitter.

Has anyone ever encountered this problem and what was your solution?... or
is this really a problem?

If it is a problem would a CP60 help?
