I have no solid idea about why it is used in the first place. Fortunately, only relative paths are given. I have to check, whether it changes casing. If so, it should be easy to fix, in particular since Delphi is used for Windows only, whereas Linux and Mac OS X are fpc. I'll investigate, whether we can actually get rid of it.
